We wandered into southern Washington at the end of July, 2007, visiting Mt. St. Helens and some
coastal areas. The logging industry is huge in this area, and we after gaping at the piles of logs
burying train cars headed for the mills, we marveled at the piles of logs blown over by the eruption of
Mt. St. Helens so long ago.
As we zig-zagged across the state we visited a winery, found a cute town with a frog motif, and finally
saw Mt. Rainier in all its snowy splendor.
We returned to Washington at the end of August, 2007, after a visit to Vancouver Island. After
cruising past the San Juan Islands by ferry we crossed the North Cascade mountain range headed
east towards Idaho. The mountains views were inspiring, but the little mountain towns they shrouded
were even more uplifting. We bumped into farmers markets and a fiddlers contest and soon the wet
and grey coast gave way to dry sunny air.
