In July, 2007, we drove up along the Oregon coast. It is a gorgeous, rugged coastline filled with salt
spray, huge surf, dangerous cliffs and stunning views. We rounded the bend at Astoria and followed
the Columbia River inland, stopping outside of Portland in Scappoose, Oregon for a few weeks while
we traded in our truck and waited for a new truck cap.
The Columbia River taught us many history lessons that had escaped us in high school. Lewis &
Clark had been mere names before, and now their tale came alive as we wandered the shoreline
along the river. We savored the luscious fruits and berries that were in season and marveled at Mt.
Hood and Mt. Adams as they hung silently on the horizon.
