In late August, 2007, we crossed into northern Idaho. There is just a tiny strip of the state up that far
north, but we loved what we saw. We accidentally found ourselves riding the 72-mile Trails of the
Coeur d'Alenes bike path, admiring the rural sights and stopping at the many small towns along the
way.
July, 2009 brought us back to Idaho once again. After a crazy four months of driving all over
Michigan and California, we finally stopped in our tracks in the charming town of Ketchum / Sun
Valley. We stayed for a month, soaking up the laid back atmosphere of this cute town and enjoying
the gorgeous views in the nearby national forest.
We loved the Ketchum/Sun Valley area so much that we stayed for a month in July and August of
2009. There was always something going on, from free movies to car races, and we found many
places to camp in the nearby national forest that were utterly spectacular.
The Sun Valley Resort itself offers all kinds of activities in the summer: outdoor ice skating, a lovely
historic lodge lined with celebrity photos, and nightly symphony concerts at the Sun Valley Pavilion.
What a place to spend the summer of 2009.
In August, 2009 we spent a week in the Stanley, Idaho area. We took the kayak to two gorgeous lakes,
Stanley Lake and Redfish Lake. Each offered crystal clear water and spectacular craggy mountain
backdrops, perfect for a lazy drift in the little boat. We also learned about the lives of salmon at the
Salmon Festival and took several bike rides along the three scenic highways that intersect in this town.
